When you create an account or use Bentara, we collect: your name, email address, profile photo (optional), fishing catch logs (species, weight, GPS location, photos), and any messages sent through our booking or contact system.

1.2 Location Data

Bentara requests access to your device's GPS location to show nearby fishing spots, kolam pancing, kelong, and boat services on the interactive map. Location data is only collected while the app is in use (foreground). We do not track your location in the background.

1.3 Automatically Collected Data

We automatically collect certain technical information including your device type, operating system version, app version, crash reports, and usage statistics. This data is anonymous and used solely to improve app stability and performance.

1.4 Information from Service Providers

If you are a boat captain, kolam owner, kelong operator, or tournament organizer registering as a provider, we additionally collect your business name, contact number, operating location, service descriptions, pricing, and booking history.

We use the information we collect to: • Operate and improve the Bentara platform and mobile app • Display your fishing spot and catch log on the community feed (only if you choose to share) • Process booking requests between anglers and service providers • Send you important account notifications and booking confirmations • Respond to your inquiries submitted via the website contact form • Comply with applicable Malaysian laws and regulations • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues or fraudulent activity

3.1 With Service Providers

When you make a booking inquiry, your name and contact information are shared with the relevant service provider (boat captain, kolam owner, etc.) to facilitate the booking. This information is limited to what is necessary to complete the service.

3.2 Community Features

Catch logs, photos, and fishing spot check-ins that you choose to share publicly will be visible to other Bentara users. You can control the privacy of your posts within the app settings.

3.3 Third-Party Services

Bentara uses the following third-party services that may receive limited data: • Google Maps Platform — for map display and location services • Firebase (Google) — for push notifications and analytics • Resend — for transactional email delivery All third-party services are bound by their own privacy policies and data processing agreements.

3.4 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government authority under Malaysian law, including the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) 2010.

3.5 We Do Not Sell Your Data

Bentara does not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party for marketing purposes.

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or to resolve disputes.

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), secure database access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Bentara is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice in the app or sending an email to your registered address. Your continued use of Bentara after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
